Easy Ways to Up Your Style with Flooring near Redwood City, CA

You may think the flooring in a room is the last thing people notice but considering it takes up a significant amount of space in any area, it’s no surprise that people do note the floor. You don’t want yours to be boring but how do you make it unique? If you’re looking for ways to up your floor’s style, the designers at Deja Blue Home Staging and Design are here to show you how easy it can be.

Statement Flooring

Don’t let the name scare you away - statement flooring doesn’t have to be loud and colorful to have an impact on the decor of a room. Using carpeting, wood panels, and tile in interesting patterns is an exciting way to enhance the look of your floors. Sometimes patterns on walls can make a room feel cluttered and distract people from the rest of the design scheme when patterns on the floor, however, are an entirely different story and add unexpected balance to a space. You can go with a black and white pattern for classic contrast or use a variety of colors to create fun variance. Either way will liven up the flooring in a room, especially if the rest of the decor is neutral.

Use Area Rugs to Define Zones in a Room

Area rugs are particularly handy in very spacious rooms, especially open floor plans that transition across living areas. Use a large area rug to create an inviting sitting area, and a smaller rug at the line between the living area and other spaces. Make sure your rugs thoughtfully complement or contrast with your existing decor in both color and texture.

Try Different Types of Flooring In a Single Space

This is an idea we love to use in homes with vast entryways. Break up the space and differentiate your home's entryway from stairs and adjacent space by using more than one type of flooring. If you use hardwood near the doorway, consider carpet on a visible staircase. When combining different types of flooring remember to keep patterns similar. Using an especially bold pattern in a single area will distract from other spaces you’re trying to highlight.

Keep Your Floors Clean

We know. We’re not fans of mopping and vacuuming, either, but maintaining your floors will help to keep them looking beautiful for longer. Hardwood and tile floors should be swept daily and mopped weekly. Carpets and rugs are harder to keep clean but vacuuming a few times per week and steam cleaning every six months will make a huge difference in their longevity.
